February is Black
History Month. Throughout this month, we will honor a new generation of black
leaders and black poets on the announcements. Each day, we will celebrate the
legacy of black Americans through either the reading of a poem or of a brief
bio of an inspirational black figure.
Stokely Carmichael
Born on June 29, 1941,
Stokely Carmichael was a civil rights activist. He was a member and on the
chairman on the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee working with Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. Later on in his life he left SNCC to become the prime
minister of the militant Black Panther Party.
