Student Announcements: November 30, 2017

All Nanowrimo participants are invited to a write-in in the library during lunch today. Snacks provided!

Culture Fest is this Friday, December 1st and will begin at 6:00pm in the Cafe Commons with our potluck. If you plan to contribute a dish, please indicate so through the Google Form Link (provided here). The programming portion of CultureFest will begin at 7:00pm in the Auditorium and will feature the PTSA Reflections awards, performances from CHS students and families, as well as a video presentation created by students in collaboration with Mr. Murchison and Mr. Hite. This event is free and open to everyone. Attendees for CultureFest should enter through the main entrance of the building.

The American Red Cross and the CHS Red Cross Club will be hosting our Winter Blood Drive on Thursday, December 14 in the gym from 8:30am-1:30pm. Come signup during lunch in front of the library soon to donate blood and save a life before the holidays!


Sophomores: Are you interested in accelerating your education? Would you like to take FREE college courses while still in high school? If so, you should consider applying to Middle College High School at Durham Technical Community College! Middle College is a public high school that was established jointly by Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, Durham Public Schools, and Orange County Schools. Students may apply for admission and if accepted, transfer to Middle College where they will have the opportunity to graduate from high school with two FREE years of transferable college credit or a career certification. All high school courses are taught at the honors level and college courses are taught by DTCC college instructors. The application period for Middle College High School will run from January 8-31, 2018.

If you wish to learn more,  an MCHS staff member will visit Carrboro High School on Tuesday, December 5th at 12:15 in the CIC to speak with interested students. Students may sign up in advance in the white notebook in the CIC. Lastly, if you have questions about Middle College High School, you may contact Mr. William Evans (MCHS College Liaison) at 919-536-7203, ext.2.

Girls Soccer Interest meeting will be this this Thursday, November 30, during lunch at 12:20pm.  It should last about 10 min.  Please meet in the weight room.

Buy your “Cancer Cannot” wristbands during lunch this week for $1. Look for Cancer Awareness Club members outside of the library. Donations are encouraged and welcome! All proceeds go to the UNC Lineberger Cancer Center.

The Powderpuff game has been POSTPONED to next Wednesday, November 15. Come cheer on your class teams at the Powderpuff game tonight at 6 pm! Tickets are $5 but if you wear your class Powderpuff shirt, tickets will be $3.

We will have our early athletic signing day on Thursday Nov. 9 beginning at 12pm in the Media Center. Destiny Cox (volleyball) , Jadin Dewith (softball) and Jacob Steinert (golf) will announce their college choices. 4th Period Students who wish to attend the signing ceremony will need to get approval from their teachers. Congratulations to Destiny, Jadin and Jacob!

Tomorrow is the last day to submit your National Honor Society application. You must be a current Junior or Senior with a weighted GPA of 3.8 and have 60 Service Learning hours. Please note that having those two requirements does not guarantee admission. Download an application here and submit to Ms. Barkdolloni in TLC1 before 4 pm on November 9.

Carrboro High School’s new literary magazine, Jagged Lines, is now accepting submissions for our Fall 2017 issue. Please submit original short stories, poems, essays, comics, visual art, and photography by the end of the day in order to be considered for publication in the magazine. Send all submissions to CHSJaggedLines@gmail.com. Be sure to include the author’s name and grade level with your submission.

CHS One-Act Auditions will be held in the Blackbox (C114) Monday, November 6th from 4:00-6:00 and Wednesday, November 8th from 12:20-1:10 and from 4:00-6:00. Callbacks are Thursday, November 9th from 4:00-6:00, and no monologue is required. Auditions are open to all students; wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to read from scripts provided!

Pierre Perrin, a former CHS student and current North Carolina School of Science and Math NCSSM student will be hosting a session in the CIC today at lunch to assist CHS students with applying to NCSSM for the upcoming school year.

Tenth graders, please remember that you will take Pre ACT on Wednesday, Nov. 8th from 1st period to Lunch. Please be sure to wear layers and bring a pencil and calculator with you to the test. All other students please be aware that the media center and most of upper D will be closed for testing that morning.

Pie-a-teacher during the pep rally today, the teacher with the most cash in their jar gets a pie in the face. $1 for each vote. Be sure to donate at lunch today.

The Carrboro Jaguars Men and Women Cross Country Teams will showcase their hard work and dedication on Saturday Nov. 4 at the NCHSAA 2A State Championship Meet. The State Meet will be held at the Ivey M. Redmon Park in Kernersville. Go Jags!
Jaguar Volleyball Team will defend its State Title Sat. Nov. 4 at Reynolds Coliseum on the Campus of NC State University at 2:30pm vs West Iredell.  Admission is $9.00.  Jaguars will need your support Saturday! More details on the Athletic webpage.

Wrestling Weight Certification Test will be given on Monday Oct. 30, Tuesday Oct. 31 and Wed. Nov. 1 after school until 4:30pm in the Athletic Training Room. Must have a “Ticket to Play” to take the wrestling weight certification tests.
