Student Announcements: October 31, 2018

There will be a MANDATORY meeting of The National Honor Society Thursday, November 1st in Rubenstein's room (D218). This is a major organizational meeting and will be led by the new officers. All are expected to attend.

Mark your calendars the 2018 Homecoming Celebration is next week. Start the week off by supporting your best spirit wear by participating in the daily themes: Character Monday, Wacky Wednesday, Jersday Thursday, and Class color day. Then join us Friday November 9 for a Homecoming Pep Rally, Homecoming and Senior night football game, and close out the night with the homecoming celebration in the commons from 9-11:30. Keep your eyes out for tickets very soon for the celebration after the football game. Tickets will be 1 for $10 or 2 for $15.

READ CHS is a club at Carrboro High School! READ stands for Raising Equal Access to Diversity through Reading.

The READ Club is fundraising to help provide engaging literature to underserved students at JFK High School, all of whom receive free lunch and breakfast.  We need your help! Support our efforts by coming out on Thursday, October 25th to the 7:00pm feature of The Hate U Give, the adaptation of the best selling novel inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement.  All concessions bought for viewing the movie at Silverspot Cinema in Chapel Hill will benefit JFK high school in buying their own copies of The Hate U Give.  Witness a stunning work of film while helping a great cause!

  • Student of the Week: Adrian Ornelas- Adrian helps his classmates in the EL Math I class. He's kind and very easy to work with. He's been in US schools for one year, but he's taking Civics, Biology, Math, etc. A full, challenging course load! He goes to Smart Lunches several times a week. He also works a tough, physical job after school and on weekend. A truly lovely young man.

  • Congratulations to the Jaguar Volleyball team...we took down Science and Math last night 3-1 in the finals of the Mid-State Conference Tournament. NCSSM beat us twice in the regular season (3-0, 3-2). Brackets for the state playoffs will come out Monday.  Go Jags!

Our Jaguar Women's Cross Country Team won their 10th consecutive conference title yesterday and our Men's Team placed 3rd.  Regionals will be on Oct. 27 at Wake Med. Park.


Volleyball advances to the Mid-State Conference Tournament Finals tonight at Cummings vs NCSSM, 6pm.


Football defeated Bartlett Yancey 29-14 last night; our current standing is  4-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Current 9th and 10th graders:  the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) is an unparalleled opportunity for academic and personal growth, particularly for students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education.  There will be a representative from NCSSM at CHS Wed. 10/17 to meet with interested students during lunch. You apply during your 10th grade year. You must sign up for the visit TODAY in the Student Services suite. See Mr. Harkey to further discuss.
