Student Announcements: March 13, 2020

Students signed up for the March 14 SAT this Saturday:  your test center will notify you directly if your testing location is closed.  Chapel Hill HS has canceled their test administration this Saturday.

 

Today is your last day to complete the CHS-Duke survey in room E220 during lunch.

 

Remember to check your email daily beginning Monday, March 30th. This will be the first day of online learning.

Also, please take any personal belongings home today. The office will not be available for you to store items.

Students and staff:  Walk-ins are welcome in Student Services, but a reminder that students should have a pass from their teacher to come.  Do not just come at the class change or at the end of lunch and expect to get a pass from Student Services for being late.  Students, you do not need to tell your teachers why you are coming, but they do need to know where you are. Thank you all for your help.

All 9th-11th graders:  registration for next year's classes will be finalized this week.  If you have not submitted both forms of your course requests, online and paper, please do so immediately.  Paper forms should be returned to your counselor, going forward.

The school newspaper, The Jagwire, is recruiting staff writers for next year. If you are interested in taking this class please contact Mr. Lourens or Jade Simpson. There will also be a link in your email to an interest form. 


Today at lunch, a representative from the Town of Chapel Hill will be here to get YOUR ideas on how our community can be more sustainable. This is a great opportunity to get involved and get your voice heard!  Meet in Mr. Klakovich's room (D-214) during lunch today.

We are pleased to announce CHS's participation in 2020 Say Something Call-To-Action Week. The main objective of Say Something is to teach students how to:

1.       Look for Warning Signs and threats

2.       Act immediately and take signs and threats seriously

3.       Say Something to a trusted adult BEFORE someone hurts themselves or others

These courses are part of CHS's Career Technical Education (CTE) elective course offerings, and provide opportunities to build valuable skills in the ever expanding areas of Graphic Design; Photography; Web Design, Animation; Game Design; and Video & Audio Production using Adobe software. 


Adobe Visual Design, Adobe Digital Design and Adobe Video Design are available with honors credit options and provide opportunities for students to become Adobe Certified Associates in all Adobe Creative Cloud programs. For more information, see Ms. Landis in E115. 


There will be a SkillsUSA meeting during lunch Wednesday, in E115, Ms. Landis' Room, to discuss details for the upcoming state conference. All members who are planning to participate should attend.

February is  CTE Month and the CTE department invites everyone in our community to visit our school during the month of February to check out our CTE programs, classes, and students' work and accomplishments.


As part of CTE Month, we are celebrating SkillsUSA at CHS today!

SkillsUSA is a Career Tech Student Organization which empowers its members to become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens. SkillsUSA improves the quality of our nation's future skilled workforce through the development of personal, workplace and technical skills grounded in academics. SkillsUSA has served 13.5 million members since its founding in 1965.


Our CHS SkillsUSA members meet weekly and attend state and national leadership conferences, competing and placing in many skill related categories.  To find out more, drop by and see the SkillsUSA display outside Ms. Landis' room, E115.

February is  CTE Month and the CTE department invites everyone in our community to visit our school during the month of February to check out our CTE programs, classes, and students' work and accomplishments.

The first 50 CHS students will be admitted for free to the playoff basketball game tonight.  The ticket fees will be covered by CHS Boosters. If students have a CHS school ID, they should bring it to the ticket gate to be counted. The game is at 7pm vs Trinity High School. Go Jags - let's make some noise!!!!

Carrboro will host Trinity tonight in the 1st Round of the NCHSAA Men's Basketball State Playoffs Tuesday Feb. 25 at 7pm.  Cost is $7.00. CHS athletics passes cannot be used for State Playoff contests. 

Winter Athletic Awards will be held on Wed. Feb. 26 at 7pm in the Gym. All awards will be presented.  Congratulations to our Winter Athletes!

Career and College Promise: Students and parents are invited to attend an informational presentation by Durham Technical Community College this evening at 6:15 pm in the media center.
