Student Announcements: February 28, 2020

All 9th-11th graders:  registration for next year's classes will be finalized next week.  The online PowerSchool course registration window will open to students on Monday morning 3/2.  Your paper course request forms will be due to your 1st period teacher Wed. 3/4. Counselors will continue meeting any students with whom we have not yet met the remainder of this week and early next week, or you can email your counselor to request an appointment.


Please take a moment to nominate one of your teacher(s) and/or staff member(s) for our teacher/staff recognition program. Nominations will be accepted until March 3rd. Our goal is to have 300+ submissions. Follow the links below to make a submission:

As part of CTE Month, we are celebrating SkillsUSA at CHS today!

SkillsUSA is a Career Tech Student Organization which empowers its members to become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens. SkillsUSA improves the quality of our nation's future skilled workforce through the development of personal, workplace and technical skills grounded in academics. SkillsUSA has served 13.5 million members since its founding in 1965.


Our CHS SkillsUSA members meet weekly and attend state and national leadership conferences, competing and placing in many skill related categories.  To find out more, drop by and see the SkillsUSA display outside Ms. Landis' room, E115.

The first 50 CHS students will be admitted for free to the playoff basketball game tonight.  The ticket fees will be covered by CHS Boosters. If students have a CHS school ID, they should bring it to the ticket gate to be counted. The game is at 7pm vs Trinity High School. Go Jags - let's make some noise!!!!

Carrboro will host Trinity tonight in the 1st Round of the NCHSAA Men's Basketball State Playoffs Tuesday Feb. 25 at 7pm.  Cost is $7.00. CHS athletics passes cannot be used for State Playoff contests. 

Winter Athletic Awards will be held on Wed. Feb. 26 at 7pm in the Gym. All awards will be presented.  Congratulations to our Winter Athletes!

Career and College Promise: Students and parents are invited to attend an informational presentation by Durham Technical Community College this evening at 6:15 pm in the media center. You will have the opportunity to learn how students can begin taking college courses and earning high school and college credit during their junior and senior years. Thursday evening is our 13th Annual CommUnity Dinner, 6:00-8:00 p.m. - a time for all families to come together to celebrate Black History Month with a CHS focus.  This year's event includes a free catered dinner, Dr. William P. Jackson, founder of Village of Wisdom, and a CHS student discussion panel about how we can all work to overcome racial bias within our community to close our achievement gap.  Check your email link for volunteer opportunities for this event.


Wanting to give up on doing schoolwork? Then come out to AYM's crash course on how to stay motivated.Come to D120 on Friday during lunch to hear UNC students' perspectives on what motivates them.There will be free pizza, and anyone is welcome.

Student Announcements: February 12, 2020

February is  CTE Month and the CTE department invites everyone in our community to visit our school during the month of February to check out our CTE programs, classes, and students' work and accomplishments.


Spring Sports begin today. Students must present a Ticket To Play to try-out. Listen for announcements as weather may impact outside practices. Baseball and Softball at the ball diamonds. Men's lacrosse at the practice field. Women's Soccer, Women's Lacrosse and Track at the Stadium. Men's Tennis at the tennis courts.  Men's Golf will be announced.


Want to earn Honors Credit for being in chorus? Auditions will be held Tuesday-Friday next week in the choir room during lunch, before school, and after school. See Ms. Puhala or email for details, and to sign up for your preferred audition time.


Looking for a class to add to your course registration?  Take a Theatre, Technical Theatre course, or Honors Global Cinema and Filmmaking.  Sign up for a course when you register, and speak with Ms. Stegall in C114 if you have questions.  There's a place for everyone!

Would you like to play in the pit orchestra for the musical?  We are seeking 2 clarinet, 1 bass clarinet, and 1 tenor sax player.  Email Mr. Spillman (cspillman@chccs.k12.nc.us) ASAP if interested.

 

Are you ready for Prom?  Cinderella's Closet provides free prom dresses and accessories to Juniors and Seniors who would not otherwise be able to afford it.  Please see Ms. Crider in Student Services for a referral. Referral forms are due Monday, March 9th.


This is a reminder that there are just a few more days to purchase your Valentine meme's from the DECA table in front of the Library during lunch. Megan Cubell and Bridget Kelly are willing and able to  assist in your Valentine choices. Price is $1 and will be delivered on Friday, February 14.
