Student Announcements: February 19, 2020

February is  CTE Month and the CTE department invites everyone in our community to visit our school during the month of February to check out our CTE programs, classes, and students' work and accomplishments.


Are you creative or interested in technology? Then consider signing up for an Adobe Academy course next year. 

These courses are part of CHS's CTE elective course offerings, and provide opportunities to build valuable skills in the ever expanding areas of Graphic Design; Photography; Web Design, Animation; Game Design; and Video & Audio Production using Adobe software. Adobe Visual Design, Adobe Digital Design and Adobe Video Design are available with honors credit options and provide opportunities for students to become Adobe Certified Associates in all Adobe Creative Cloud programs. Want to make $300? Planned Parenthood's Teen Connections Program is seeking students 14-18 years old to attend Peer Educator classes Wednesday nights at Chapel Hill Public Library, 5:30-7:30 from March 4 through May 13.  Please see Ms. Crider for an application which is due Friday 2/21.

 

New schedule for Mid-State Conference Men's Basketball Tournament: Jaguar Men play tonight Wed. Feb. 19,  5:30pm vs Bartlett Yancey at Burlington Cummings High School. Admission is $7.00 Support your Jags!

 

New course offering! Piano class will be offered next year to students of all levels of ability. Talk to your counselor to add it to your schedule!

Career and College Promise: Students and parents are invited to attend an informational presentation by Durham Technical Community College on Tuesday, Feb 25 at 6:15 pm in the media center. You will have the opportunity to learn how students can begin taking college courses and earning high school and college credit during their junior and senior years. Are you ready for Prom?  Cinderella's Closet provides free prom dresses and accessories to Juniors and Seniors who would not otherwise be able to afford it.  Please see Ms. Crider in Student Services for a referral. Referral forms are due Monday, March 9th.


Looking for a class to add to your course registration?  Take a Theatre, Technical Theatre course, or Honors Global Cinema and Filmmaking.  Sign up for a course when you register, and speak with Ms. Stegall in C114 if you have questions.  There's a place for everyone! 

 

Come out to the Theatre 4 show auditions this Wednesday, February 19th or Thursday, February 20th at lunch in the Blackbox (C114). This is a great chance for new actors to join the process and for returning ones to fit one last show into this season! A contemporary monologue is highly recommended. Thursday evening is our 13th Annual CommUnity Dinner, 6:00-8:00 p.m. - a time for all families to come together to celebrate Black History Month with a CHS focus.  This year's event includes a free catered dinner, Dr. William P. Jackson, founder of Village of Wisdom, and a CHS student discussion panel about how we can all work to overcome racial bias within our community to close our achievement gap.  Check your email link for volunteer opportunities for this event.


Wanting to give up on doing schoolwork? Then come out to AYM's crash course on how to stay motivated.Come to D120 on Friday during lunch to hear UNC students' perspectives on what motivates them.There will be free pizza, and anyone is welcome.
