Daily Announcements Nov. 30, 2016

*This Friday from 7:30pm-9:30pm:  Join the Alley Cats, Lucky 13, The Sophistikeys and others for The Girls Give Back benefit concert hosted by the CHS women's rights advocacy club in the Carrboro auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students and 10$ for adults or FREE if you bring an item to donate to The Homestart Shelter for women and children. Visit the Girls Give Back Facebook page for info on what items to bring.  All proceeds will be donated!

*Fine forgiveness food drive at the library.  Donate non-perishable food items and we will forgive your fines!  Food is donated to TABLE - feeding kids in Chapel Hill Carrboro.  Thank you.

*Missing something?  Pick up your Lost & Found items in the Commons during lunch today, tomorrow and Wednesday.  Any items remaining this afternoon will be donated.  

*Reminder that the DECA Leadership committee has a meeting in Ms. Francis room during A Lunch today.

*SAVE THE DATE DECA DISTRICT COMPETITORS for this Thursday, December 1st in Ms. Francis room, D212. This is a MANDATORY meeting to discuss preparations for DISTRICTS. Be prepared to come to one of the following presentations: A-Lunch:Presentation #1 or B-Lunch: Presentation #2.

*The Eco-Action club meets every Monday after school in our beautiful community garden behind the D wing. Come on by and help us create a beautiful garden at CHS!

*Want to earn service hours, practice your Spanish, or just up for an incredible adventure? You should seriously link about joining us on our trip to Ecuador this coming summer. There are still spots left but we are going to try to fill them before winter break. There will be an lunch interest meeting next week. Stay tuned or talk to Mr. Klakovich if you are interested.


*The Red Cross club will be hosting a drive for Hurricane Matthew victims. Items we're collecting are cleaning supplies, washcloths/towels, bottled water, new socks, soap/shampoo/deodorant, toothbrushes/toothpaste, books/games, and canned goods. The drive will go through -December 15. Students and parents can drop off items in the front roundabout in the mornings and at lunch in front of the library.


*Mark your calendars for the 2016 CultureFest, Colors of the World, which is coming up on Thursday, December 1st from six to eight PM here at Carrboro High School! The potluck starts at six followed by entertainment at seven. Bring your favorite family or cultural dish and the recipe, and if you are interested in performing contact Ms. Johnson as soon as possible to sign up! Remember to ask your foreign language teacher about an opportunity for extra credit!

*Winter Links has officially started! Winter Links is a yearly fundraiser put on by Student Government in order to spread holiday cheer around the CHS community. This year, the fundraiser will run from November 28th- December 22nd. Money will be collected during fourth period classes. This year, we are raising money for graduated CHS Karen refugee students to take a trip back to their homes in Thailand and Burma. The class who fundraises the most money wins a prize breakfast. Happy holidays!


*Interested in joining the Cancer Awareness Club? Come to our first meeting on Friday, December 2nd during A lunch in room E220.


*Students interested in signing up for the December 5th Driver’s Ed class should see Ms. Lombardi as soon as possible.

The  Global Health Club is hosing a guest speaker named Leslie Lytle today, Friday, November 18 at lunch in room E221.  You are welcome to bring your friends and your lunch.  We hope to see you there.
 
After school tutoring in the Media Center is cancelled on Tuesday, November 22, the day before break.

The Fall Sports Awards Night will be held on Monday November 21 at 7:00pm in the Auditorium.  Come out and celebrate the Jaguars and their accomplishments!

Has the recent Presidential election left you with more questions than answers?  Do you need a refresher on how the legislative process works, how decisions are made and how laws are implemented in Washington DC?  How can people’s voices be heard in a productive and positive way? Do you just need a space to process the election?


You are all welcome to come to a question and answer session in room E218 during B lunch on Wednesday with our very own Jamie Schendt, Civics Teacher and others.  This is an opportunity for reflection, clarification and understanding.   We will be respectful of one another and acknowledge the civil liberties for the whole of our community.

Congratulations to the Jaguar Men's Soccer Team! We defeated Currituck County last night 3-0. We will travel to East Duplin on Thursday for a 6:00pm match.  Good Luck Jags! 3rd Round of the State Playoffs

Intellectually curious high school students are invited to Splash UNC, an annual event on UNC campus featuring unique classes taught by UNC students. From college admissions to self-defense to DNA, and beyond, students have over 100 classes from which to choose.
When: Saturday, November 12 from 10 am to 5 pm
Where: UNC campus in Chapel Hill, NC
Cost: $15 program fee to cover the cost of course materials and lunch. Financial assistance is provided to students with need. A student may request financial assistance by emailing
