Student Announcements: October 11, 2019

CARRBORO HIGH SCHOOL IS GOING TO GERMANY AND SWITZERLAND SPRING 2020.If interested, there will be a parent meeting on October 22 at 5:30 pm in room D114. Look for posters and flyers posted on walls all over our building to RSVP. Any questions talk to Dr. Morais in room D114.


Today are our Homecoming celebrations.. This year's celebrations will include a tailgate at 5pm with FREE food, live music, backyard games, and a chance to make spirit posters for game. We will then march together to the football game to cheer the Jags to victory, then return to the commons for our rodeo hoedown. Tickets are on sale TODAY 1 for $10 or 2 for $15.


Friendly reminder that Service Learning is a requirement for graduation. In case you are unaware, the website is: https://www.chccs.org/ServiceLearning   If you need to set up your account (or even cannot remember your log-in/password), you can go to https://letserve.com/   Click log-in. Enter in your school e-mail address and click "forgot password ?". Then you will have a new password e-mailed to you  You can then more easily add the LetServe app if you want..  The first set up may be easier from a computer/laptop. 


If you are interested in a career in the military, consider taking the ASVAB in the CHS media center on Wednesday, October 30 at 9 am. You must use the registration link http://bit.ly/2lscbKO. This opportunity is for Sophomores-Seniors.


Winter Sports Tryouts begin October 30.  To be eligible to tryout, students must register online at carrborojaguars.com, submit a current physical exam and Gfeller-Waller Concussion form.  Once you have completed the requirements, you need to pick up a "Ticket to Play" from Coach Ross on Oct. 21, 22, & 23 in the Commons during lunch. In addition, you have to pass 5 subjects from the previous semester with a minimum of a 2.0 GPA (semester) and promoted to the next grade level. You cannot be 19 years old before or on August 31, 2019. Winter Sports Registration will close October 28. All Fall Athletes who plan to tryout for Winter Sports need to register before the deadline and get a Ticket to Play to tryout.


Attention Students who have registered for Swimming: Potential Team Members will be evaluated for three days beginning October 30 on the following criteria: 1) Perform all four strokes legally, 2) Dives into the pool, 3) Turns and 4) Time Trials on the 50 freestyle and 100 IM. Next week the following colleges will send representatives to visit CHS:  University of Alabama, Bowdoin College, Emory University and Brandeis University.  To attend these visits please sign up in the CIC.

Tomorrow, Saturday, October 12th is an open Community Workday from 10 AM - 5 PM for JagTheatre's upcoming production.  You can attend part or all of the workday, and service hours are available.  We are seeking:

* Builders
* Painters
* Sewers
* Movers
* People with enthusiasm that are willing to learn even if they don't think they fit into any of those categories!
