PTSA Announcement

Parents—you may be aware of a growing movement of parents, students, teachers and staff in our area who are committed to advocating for Education in North Carolina.  Many schools held events last week to show educators support--  from lining the streets with parents and kids in red, to legislative letter writing campaigns to literally rolling out a red carpet for teachers. At Carrboro High we are no less dedicated to supporting education.
 - Last week students signed red banners expressing support for fair teacher pay and strong education to be sent to the NC General Assembly.
 - This week PTSA Advocacy Committee members will distribute information packets in the carpool line. Included is specific information on how YOU can get involved—from attending meetings or rallies to writing to your elected officials.

Make note of upcoming events that will affect our schools, their budgets and all our students:

  • Locally—Orange County Board of Commissioners will meet on May 22nd in Hillsborough and May 29th in Chapel Hill. We hope to have a large group attend the Chapel Hill meeting and will focus our collective organizing efforts on that meeting on the 29th.

  • State-wide---The NC General Assembly will open their short session this week on Wednesday, Math 14th.  Groups of interested parents are going to head to Raleigh to show their support for education.

Our friends at Pay Our Teachers First are making specific plans for car pools and meetings. You can check out their webpage (and sign up for the listserve) and like them on Facebook for more information. Pay Our Teachers First has also opened up the red t-shirt campaign district wide. If you need a red t-shirt to wear on Wednesdays then visit the site and put one on order
