Student Announcements: February 12, 2019

February is CTE Month and to express the importance of our CTE programs here at CHS the CTE department has joined forces to celebrate the value of CTE and the achievements and accomplishments of our CTE programs and students. Each week in the month of February the CTE department will showcase one of its four program areas. Be sure to engage and support our CTE Month celebrations!


Do you need Service Learning Hours? The CHS Quiz Bowl Team is hosting a tournament Saturday, February 16th from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. See Mr. Beichner or Arun Charkrabarty for more information or sign up here. You can earn at least 6 volunteer hours!

 

Due to a crazy month of January, Winterlinks has been extended for the month of February Please continue to help SGA and their partnership with Dixon High school to help with Hurricane Florence relief. The current standings are First Place: Dr. T, Second Place: Captain K, and Third Place: Mr Severance.

 

Peer Buddies…. Bring your lunch & your Buddy & join us in D122 during lunch today to make some Valentines together!  We want to make as many Valentines as possible to give to Meals on Wheels clients for Valentine's Day. (& yes, you can join in on the Valentine's Day fun even if you're not in Peer Buddies!  Service Learning hours are available.)


Do you have a special someone? A best friend? The French Honors Society is selling Appreciation Hearts during lunch in front of the library this week, so you can tell anyone you want how much they mean to you. Your hearts can come with flowers and balloons, and your gift can even be anonymous if you want! All the money collected will be used to help french-speaking refugees in our community, and the items will be delivered on Valentines Day.


Wanna get published? Jagged Lines, the Carrboro High School literary magazine, is currently accepting submissions for the Spring 2019 edition. Send your short stories, poems, visual art, photography, and other publishable works to CHSJaggedLines@gmail.com by March 15th. Feel free to email if you have questions about submissions.

 

Spring Sports Registration closes on Tuesday Feb. 12 at 5pm. Spring Sports begin Feb. 13. All teams report to the fields or courts at 4:10pm except for men's lacrosse which will meet at 4:30pm.



Spanish Club will be offering Spanish language Valentine cards and custom made tissue paper flowers for that special someone! $1 for a card or Flower in the main lobby during lunch Today and Wednesday. Gift with every purchase so stop on by!

 

 

The Student Choice Program is coming to Carrboro High beginning Tuesday February 19th and ending on Friday February 22nd.  Students will be encouraged to 'voice their choice' by tasting new recipes and voting on favorite foods to eat in the cafeteria  Click here for more information or contact Liz Cartano.


The CHS Chorus is holding auditions for next year during SMART Lunch and after school this week. You don't need to audition to join Concert Choir, but students interested in earning Honors Credit for being in chorus will need to audition this week. Join us on Friday, February 22, in the auditorium for our annual African-American Read-In to celebrate literary works that honor the African-American experience. Using the Google Form in the daily announcements, sign up to read or perform your favorite poem or prose excerpt by an African-American author, or your own original piece that celebrates African-American culture.

 

Our last home basketball game is tonight vs Durham School of the Arts.  It's Senior Night! Come out and celebrate our Senior Women's Basketball players before their game (6:00pm).  Our Cheerleaders and Men's Basketball players will be honored before the 7:30pm tip off. Congratulations to the Class of 2019!
