Hello. This is Principal LaVerne Mattocks saying welcome to Carrboro High School 2014-2015! We are so excited about things to come during this school year. Let me take this time to say thank you to everyone who attended Freshmen and New Student Orientation, and kudos, to those who helped make the program a success. The CHS Jags, sponsored by Kay Johnson, did an outstanding job as ambassadors of our school.Tomorrow is the big day and I am ecstatic about beginning a new year. There are a few things I need to note about the first day of school:(1) School begins at 8:45 and dismisses at 3:50. As a reminder, the building is open to students from 8:00 am - 4:30pm, unless students are involved in a sanctioned school activity. (2) Parents, please remember the only drop-off for students is in the front circle. This will help us maintain a steady flow of traffic and provide an additional layer of precaution for our student drivers as they arrive as well. (3) Remember to check student schedules in Powerschool/Homebase this evening. There may have been changes over the course of the weekend. If you did not retrieve a copy on Friday, we will have hard copies of schedules available in front of the CIC tomorrow morning beginning at 8:00am. (4) An additional notice: We will operate as a closed campus during the first two weeks of school. Seniors will begin off-campus lunch on September 8. As we launch this school term, I ask for everyone's continued cooperation and support. Team CHS has established new goals and new processes this year. We hope our reflection leads to continual refining of our practice and providing the best learning environment for our students. IMPORTANT “CLASS SCHEDULE” INFORMATION
“Class schedule correction or change requests” must be submitted between August 26, and August 28, 2014. Forms for these requests will be available on August 25, in the CIC with Mrs. Brooks.
The appropriate reasons for requests/changes are listed here, and a decision by an Assistant Principal will occur regarding a request within 48 hours to the designated counselor.
A schedule change can be considered for any of the following reasons:
1. The student has previously earned credit for a course.
2. The student is missing a course on his/her schedule.
3. The student has previously failed a course with the same teacher.
4. The student requires a different course for graduation.
5. The student has not completed a required prerequisite for a scheduled course.
CHS is expecting excited students on Friday, August 22nd!
The JAGs (Juniors who serve as advisers to incoming students) will be holding orientation on Friday, August 22nd, starting in the Theater, but moving through the building.
The senior leaders (SPOTs) will meet with the JAGS starting at 9:30 with the freshmen coming at 10:30.
Lunch will be served to the incoming students (thanks to the support of the AVID students)
.........and the building should return to summer quiet at around 1:00.
