Student Announcements for Monday, Nov. 30th

Good morning,


Come out and see the annual CHS One-Act Festival, hosted by Hats Off Productions! Performances are: Thursday, December 3 - Sunday, December 5 at 7:30 PM
 in the CHS Blackbox.  There is also a Sunday matinee on December 6 at 2:30 PM.  Seats are limited, so you are encouraged to purchase tickets online at seatyourself.biz/jagtheatre.  Tickets are $5 for students, $10 for adults and free for CHCCS Faculty/Staff.  (Faculty/Staff should email carrborotheatre@gmail.com for reservations.) 


Carrboro High School is happy to announce the start of a Peer Buddy Program. The purpose of this program is to promote inclusion of all students. Peer Buddy Programs facilitate friendships, build leadership skills and promote acceptance, understanding and awareness of differences among students.  Students will meet with their buddy once a week during lunch or another arranged time. Service learning hours will be given to all HS students who are participating in the Peer Buddy program.  If you are interested in having a buddy or being a buddy, you can get an application from Mr. Makor in E114.


The CHS Academy of International Studies welcomes Colin Beavan, author of No Impact Man, on December 14 at 7pm.  Join us as we hear about his experience trying to live zero carbon impact life for a year.  The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session. There has been a surge of interest in our service trip to Nicaragua this summer and  the deadline for registering has been moved to THIS FRIDAY. If you want to go (and you should) then be sure to register by following the directions on Mr. Klakovich’s webpage. Mr. Klakovich will be in his room at lunch all week if you have questions or are having trouble registering. Don’t be left behind!

PERFORMERS WANTED!  We’re looking for singers, dancers, storytellers and poets for Culturefest on Tuesday night, December 1.  Looking for all sorts of performers representing our world of many cultures.  See Ms. Johnson in C-111 if you would like to perform.


SGA, DECA, Key Club and the Library are holding a fall food drive for TABLE through Dec. 4th.  TABLE provides food for local children in need. Please donate items during your 1st period class.
·  The 1st period that donates the most cans will win a free Bruegger's breakfast (from DECA).
·  1st period classes that collect at least 20 items will have library fines forgiven for all students in that class (except for lost book fines).
·  All students who donate will receive a Spirit Card from the SGA.
·  If we collect 800 items as a school ALL library fines for the entire school will be forgiven.
The library, SGA, DECA and Key Club thank you so much for your support. 


Women's LACROSSE FALL SESSIONS will start on Thursday, Dec. 3 and run every Tuesday/Thursday until the Season Starts, with our Try-Outs starting on Mon. Feb. 15.


Do you like lemurs? Join the CHS Biology Club on a visit to the Duke Lemur Center. We will have a behind the scenes tour, and meet some of the scientists who work with the lemurs. The trip is Saturday, December 12. The cost is $15. See Mrs. Bulleri in E224 for information and to sign up.

Jaguars, are you interested in attending UNC’s Business School? The Carrboro DECA Chapter is sponsoring a trip to the Kenan-Flagler Business School. Students who have yet to join DECA are invited to accompany our chapter members. Non-DECA members will have a field-trip of $20, and that fee also grants you a complimentary DECA membership for no additional charge. All participants will need to bring lunch money. See Mr. McSwain in room E115 for details.




Attention Sophomores and Juniors: Today at 12:00 in the CIC two former students, Carson McKay and Justin Laatz will meet with anyone interested in ROTC, The Service Academies or the Corps of Cadets .This is an Information Session that will last for about 30 minutes. 



Fall Athletic Awards will be held TONIGHT in the Auditorium at 7:00 pm. All students need to dress business casual.  No jeans, shorts or sweats.

Yoga club will have a yoga session today, Thursday November 19, 2015 in the gym at lunch.  Namaste!


The Carrboro Chemistry Club will be meeting in D224 today, Thursday for both A and B lunch. Everyone is welcome to come hear UNC chemistry students talk about chemistry in the news, answer your questions about chemistry and talk about careers in chemistry.


Everyone listen up!! ITS THAT TIME OF YEAR!! Powderpuff is TONIGHT!  Be there, whether you are on the field, or cheering them on!  Plan to bring $1 for admission and have a snack at a fantastic concession stand!! BE THERE AND WEAR YOUR PURPLE!!




The TRU Crew announces that TODAY is the GREAT AMERICAN SMOKEOUT. This is the day to Quit like a Champion! You can get on track to beat tobacco products! For help crossing the finish line or to advocate to never start using tobacco, stop by the TRU table TODAY at lunch in front of the Media Center.




The deadline to order CHS Team Jerseys is Friday, November 20th, so be sure to place your order soon! You can pick up an order form in the Main Office.



LATINO LUNCH - music and dance is coming!  Friday, November 20 in the Commons.  We’ll have the music playing and a dance floor ready to go!




If you are thinking about going on our service trip to Nicaragua, Don’t wait any longer! Come to Mr. Klakovich’s room (D214) this Friday (A lunch) to learn more.




There will be a MANDATORY DECA meeting this Friday during SMART Lunch. We will talk about our continued membership efforts. Members may attend either A or B lunch, so please make plans to attend one of the sessions.


Carrboro DECA is also sponsoring a guest speaker this Friday during SMART Lunch in room E115. Lane Wurster, co-founder of “The Splinter Group,” a marketing firm, will speak to us about the marketing campaigns they have done for companies in the local area. Mr. Wurster will deliver the same information during SMART Lunch A & B, so feel free to attend whichever session works best for you!

What? There’s nothing exciting going on in your life? You gotta make it happen. That’s why you should consider going with us to Nicaragua this summer. These service trips are incredibly rich experiences; ask anyone who has done one. Come see Mr. Klakovich soon as our summer trip is filling up fast.
