PTSA Reflections contest, Within Reach is due Next Monday, Nov 6th. All submissions are due to Ms Schrader in E122.

Carrboro High School’s new literary magazine, Jagged Lines, is now accepting submissions for our Fall 2017 issue. Please submit original short stories, poems, essays, comics, visual art, and photography by November 8th in order to be considered for publication in the magazine. Send all submissions to CHSJaggedLines@gmail.com. Be sure to include the author’s name and grade level with your submission.

National Novel Writing Month takes place in November. This annual nationwide event challenges you to write a novel in one month by setting a goal and setting aside some time every day to work toward it. CHS participants will be eligible for prizes and incentives throughout the month of November. If you’d like to participate, please sign up in the media center.

Volleyball will host Currituck County in the Regional Championship on Tuesday Oct. 31. Admission is $7.00. All CHS students will receive a $5 Chick-Fil-A food coupon with a paid admission.

We will also have a Halloween Costume Contest at the Volleyball Match. No masks or face paint allowed.  Winner will receive a Nike T-shirt and Al’s Burger $20 card, Second Place will get a Nike T-shirt and Rise $10 card and Third Place will receive a Nike T-shirt.

Wrestling Weight Certification Test will be given on Monday Oct. 30, Tuesday Oct. 31 and Wed. Nov. 1 after school until 4:30pm in the Athletic Training Room. Must have a “Ticket to Play” to take the wrestling weight certification tests.

Student Announcements: October 30, 2017

Pierre Perrin, a former CHS student and current North Carolina School of Science and Math NCSSM student will be hosting a session in the CIC on Friday, November 3rd at lunch to assist CHS students with applying to NCSSM for the upcoming school year.

The following colleges will visit Carrboro High School during the week of November 6th:  Salem College and the University of Dublin.  Please check the announcements blog and the CIC sandwich board for detailed information about dates and times of the visits.  

Application for the National Honor Society is now open to all eligible students. You must be a current Junior or Senior with a weighted GPA of 3.8 and have 60 Service Learning hours. Please note that having those two requirements does not guarantee admission. Download an application here and submit to Ms. Barkdolloni in TLC1 before 4 pm on November 9.

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools and Chartwells is partnering with Cornell University and Food Insight to bring a Food Truck to CHS Oct. 31-Nov. 1, the Tar Heel Eats Food Truck.  It will be in outside of the backdoors of the cafeteria.  Come check it out!

Carrboro High School Theatre presents our fall play, “She Kills Monsters,” today through Saturday, October 28th at 7:30 PM.  Tickets can be purchased at seatyourself.biz/jagtheatre and are $5 for students, $10 for adults, and free for CHCCS Faculty/Staff.  This action-packed dramatic comedy is filled with stage combat and is rated PG-13 for language and mature themes.

All students who wish to tryout for a winter sport must register prior to October 30, have a current physical exam  and a concussion form on file with the Athletic Dept.. Additionally, students must pick up a “Ticket to Play” from Coach Ross during lunch in the Commons  the week of October 23-27.  Students must give the “Ticket” to the Coach in order to try out.  Also, Current Fall athletes must register and pick up a “Ticket”.

Girl’s basketball tryouts are: October 30, 31 and November 1 TBA. If you are still competing when try-outs start, you can try after your season ends. Make sure to see AD Ross in the Commons during lunch this week to pick-up your ticket to play.

Come by the table in the commons to buy T-dance tickets during lunch this week! They are $40 for a couple and $25 for a single. Buy tickets this week because the prices will going up next week.

DECA students who are interested in going to the District competition on Tuesday, November 28 must submit appropriate paperwork and choose event.

Carrboro Volleyball will host Ayden-Grifton on Sat Oct. 28 match time is TBD.  This is the 4th round of the State Playoffs. All students who purchase a ticket will be entered in a drawing for a Nike T-Shirt.

The State Department of Public Instruction will be downloading and making this information accessible to the Military and Higher Education Institutions on Tuesday, October 31.  If you do not want your information supplied, please fill out the attached “Opt Out” form in your email (in English and Spanish) and return it to Betty Wooten in the CIC or drop it off in the Main Office by October 26.  Forms may also be obtained from the CHS website under Students/Career Information Center/Military.

A Mandatory Mentor Training for our Peer Buddy Program will take place today during B lunch in room D122.  If you did not attend Friday’s training you need to come to this meeting to become a Mentor.  See your email (this form) for more information & to print out your forms.
