Student Announcements for Wednesday, Sept. 2nd

Good morning,


Interested in learning how to run your own business? Thinking about having your own law firm one day? Have an idea that you think could make you rich? Then join CARRBORO HIGH SCHOOL’S DECA CHAPTER! There will be guest speakers to talk about all things business and marketing, field trips to learn how certain industries work, and competitive events against students from across the state! We will begin our membership drive Friday, September 4th during both sessions of SMART Lunch. A link to our membership form will also be available Monday! Come by Room E115 for details about DECA, our calendar of events, and membership.


The TRU Club {Tobacco Reality Unfiltered} will meet at lunch today in E117.


ALL FRESHMEN - Our first JAG meeting will be A lunch on Wednesday, September 2.  Your JAG will try to contact you to let you know your meeting room.  There will also be a list posted in front of the Media Center with assigned rooms and by C-111.  Remember, your JAG meeting is a required meeting and attendance will be taken.  (NOTE: All future JAG meetings will be on Friday.)


Want to start off the year keeping your stress levels low and having fun? The Yoga Club is holding an informational and planning meeting Thursday at lunch in C114. We should also have time for a short Yoga class. No experience needed!


Students who plan to participate in pre-season conditioning and skill development for Winter and Spring sports, must register online beginning Sept. 1 and submit a physical to the athletic director.


If you receive Free or Reduced Lunch please remember that you have to fill out a new application every year to continue to be eligible.  See Ms. Crider or the cafeteria staff for an application.


Students can pick up off campus passes.  Please come to Ms. Lombardi's office during free periods, study halls, or lunch.


The all-women’s, student-led A Cappella group, Sophistikeys is holding auditions beginning on Monday, Sept 7.  Audition sign-ups and more information are outside Room C-111.


Seniors-- Important Deadline for the Rensselaer Medalist Program!!!  The Rensselaer Medal is designed to recognize students for excellence in advanced math and science.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTING OUR MEDALIST:
To be honored with the Rensselaer Medal Scholarship, a student must**
*         Be ranked within the top 10% of the Class of 2016
*         Demonstrate potential for success in a challenging academic setting
*         Excel in advanced math and science courses (accepted students have completed chemistry, physics, and a minimum of four years of mathematics through pre-calculus, by the end of their high school senior year)
*         Exhibit significant involvement in extracurricular activities.
