Student Announcements for Monday, April 6th

NATIONAL DISTRACTED DRIVER AWARENESS DAY,
Monday, April 6th at UNC Children's Hospital 11:30 - 5:30.
Take a test DRIVE in our simulator (a real car!) - TEXT - and see how long it takes you to crash!


Boro Blowout is coming up! Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 11th. Sign-ups for sessions will be happening during lunch. Sessions are assigned on a first come, first serve basis -- so sign up ASAP! Descriptions of sessions are available on the tables in the Cafe Commons (and below). You can also sign up from home using the link on the CHS homepage. 
 
Tuesday, April 7th will be your last opportunity to sign up!


Sign your dodgeball team up now for Boro Blowout on Saturday, April 11th! Forms are available during lunch and in the front of the school by the SGA bulletin board.


Are you interested in fishing? Would you like to learn about the sport?  If so, come by D123 any Friday during B lunch!  The Jaguar JigHeads would love to see you there!

Junior Class Council will be selling prom tickets at lunch this week. Tickets will be $70 for a couple and $50 for a single. If you plan on taking a date from another school, stop by to get a permission slip.

Boro­Blowout Sessions

Soccer (Ms. Bulleri/Mr. Jester/Mr. Turner)­​We will play small­sided soccer matches on the practice

field. Lace up your boots and get ready for some fun.

AP Statistics Review (Ms. Castillo)­ ​Review for the AP Exam. Make a foldable of facts and

formulas, practice AP Statistics questions, "borrow" knowledge from your peers.

Yoga (Ms. Karcher & Mr. Charest)­​Yoga is fabulous for stress­relieve and strengthening your mind

and body. This class will be adapted to all levels from first timers to more advanced.

Kickball (Ms. Barkdelloni)­ ​Team sport activity with sun and fun ... and memories of elementary

How to do Sudoku Puzzles (Ms. Whitley)­ ​Students who already know how to solve puzzles can

come to do puzzles or help others. Students who would like to learn will get an easy crash course in

APUSH Exam Review (Ms. Harvey)­ ​A few people actually took AP U.S. History for the chance at

college credit. Perhaps some of those want a chance to review material from earlier in the year. If you

are only looking mythical extra credit or to complain about the course this is not the session for you.

The Art of Recycling (Mrs. Hart, Mrs. Mosher)­ ​Come and let your creative juices flow by creating

wonderful art using recycled materials! This is always a hit!

Zen and the Art of Hitchhiking (Mr. Hite)­ ​Want to understand yourself or your own culture better?

Breaking down preconceived notions of what life is like elsewhere helps one expand their horizons

that continues to be beneficial even after they have returned home. I have been on the road

hitchhiking for about 2 years in total through about 40 countries. Stories to tell...life lessons

learned...advice on how to travel abroad without breaking the bank...etcetera. Interested? Then catch

Intramurals (Ms. Clanton)­ ​Students will come in and have a choice between volleyball, badminton

Tie Dye (Ms. Owens)­ ​Going back to the 70's with multi ­colored dye on plain white cotton. YOU

WILL NEED TO PROVIDE YOUR OWN SHIRT/CLOTHING TO BE TIE­DYED.

All About Bow Ties (Mr. Brown)­ ​I will teach students all they need to know about bow ties. They

will learn how to tie a bow tie and I will be giving away 1 handmade bowtie at each session.

Nail Salon (Ms. O’Connell) ­ ​Take a break and get your nails done all well!

Relaxation Room (TBA) ­ ​Have some quiet time. Enjoy some goodies and relax

Scholarship Workshop (Ms. Sholomon)­ ​Will work with juniors on what scholarship committees are

Decorating Cupcakes (Ms. Kocher)­ ​Learn how to use different frosting tips to write, and create flowers

and leaves by practicing on paper plates. Then put your mastery skills to use on a cupcake you take with

Learn to Knit/Crochet (Ms. Dumaine & Ms. Olsen): ​Learn how to knit and/or crochet. If those who

already know how want to come and work on projects they already have, they are welcome.

Introduction to Fishing (Ms. Montoya): ​This is an introduction to freshwater fishing. The focus will be knot

tying, casting and how to bait a hook.

Cooking (Mr. Brown & Mr. Robinson): ​Learn how to prepare a simple pasta dish. You will see how easy it

is to cook and then get to enjoy the meal.

Save the Egg (Dr. Thomas): ​The challenge is to design a reentry vehicle to allow your egg to survive a

death defying drop of 20 feet. The lightest design (that keeps the egg intact) will win the event.

The Undead and Philosophy (Dr. Broome): ​This session will take participants on a brief tour of a major

philosophical dilemma refracted through the lens of vampires, zombies, and Batman characters.

Karaoke (Mr. Swaringen): ​Come sing karaoke! Hits from the 60s to today ­ pop, country, hip hop!

Mosaic Stepping Stones (Ms. Schiavone & Ms. Schrader): ​Making bright, colorful stepping stones for the

PTSA community gardens around the school.

Team Trivia Battle (Mrs. Watson): ​Assemble your team for a trivia competition. No more than 6 players per

team. Categories range from history to pop culture, current events and more.

Backyard Games (Mr. Cone & Mr. Stutts)​: Come and play traditional backyard / tailgate games like

Backstage Pass (Ms. Stegall): ​This session offers backstage work for “The Mouse That Roared.” Anyone

can join, and we will have work for you to do! We will be constructing the set, and possibly hanging lights if

you want to participate in backstage theatre, and see the magic that comes from backstage work!.

Hip Hop Dance w/ special guest Kalil ­​Hip­hop dance: come learn a short routine of some 8­counts with

MTV­style dance moves. We'll stretch, sweat, and groove in sync.
