MURAL PROJECT COMING SOON TO CHS: During the week of March 23rd through March 27th, there will be 2 or 3 muralists from the Dominican Republic at CHS to paint two murals in the upper inner stairwells of the D and E Wings. The muralists will be available to come to your classes on Monday, March the 23rd and possibly another day over the course of the week. They will have someone who will be able to translate into Spanish and English for them.  Students will be able to provide input for what should be incorporated into the mural project, have the opportunity to speak with people of another culture, work on their Spanish, ask questions, etc.  For info, please see: https://sites.google.com/a/chccs.k12.nc.us/mr-hite-s-useful-links/chs-mural-project

Composting at CHS:
We are beginning the process of separating out our compostable and recyclable waste at lunch.  The composting program has been rolled out at all CHCCS elementary and middle schools this year and CHS is the first High School to participate.  By diverting our waste from the landfill, we are significantly reducing the environmental impact that our schools have on our local environment.  Food waste becomes methane when left to rot in a landfill.  By diverting it to a compost facility, we are not only reducing our emissions, we are helping to create healthy soil for our community.

Please note the three bins that are in the commons near the outside doors.  There are signs alerting you to what goes in each bin.  Please be mindful of where you are throwing out your waste:
Recycling: plastic bottles, cans, #2,4,5 recyclables, milk cartons, juice boxes.
Landfill: plastic bags, items with recycling symbol with numbers 1, 6 or 7, plastic wrap, straws, plastic to-go containers containers, plastic forks, spoons, knives, ketchup/mustard/mayo/dressing packets.
Compost:  All food waste, cafeteria trays, paper cafeteria boats (what nachos are served in).  It is important that NO PLASTIC go in this bin.
Thank you for being aware and doing your part.
