Student Announcements: March 18, 2019

Please listen carefully to this important announcement from our School Nurse: We are at the height of flu season.  If you are not feeling well please stay home. If you have any of the following symptoms, you should stay home or if already at school go home.  Fever or feeling feverish/chills. cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches, fatigue (tiredness), nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. If you have a fever you must be stay home for 24 hours after the fever breaks. It is the only way we can stop viruses from spreading.


Congratulations to the CHS DECA chapter for their performance in the state conference this weekend. All 30 attending members were scored proficient. We also had many finalists as well as International Competition qualifiers.


Those who medaled in an event or placed top ten overall included…

Sydney West, James Overby-Brice, Jack Winfield, Nicholas Visco, Bela Matzel, Ally Lin, Will Brady, Ojas Patwardhan, and Aidan Thorne


Those who qualified for the International DECA conference by placing top 5 in their event for State included…

The team of Emma Kanjorski and Lydia Eccleston finishing in 4th place

Sourav Mohanty finishing in 4th place

Nicholas Osborne finishing in 2nd place

Jonathan Osborne finishing in 1st place

The team of Jackson Lee and Isabella Olson finishing in 1st place

Congratulations to the cast, crew, and pit of Into the Woods on a successful run, and thank you to students, faculty, and staff who were able to attend and support the Arts at CHS.


Come out and audition for Xanadu Productions Theatre 4 show, "A Tiny Miracle with a Fiberoptic Unicorn." Auditions are today and tomorrow from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Blackbox. You only have to come to one audition date. Callbacks will be on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 PM, in the Blackbox. Please prepare a 1-minute, contemporary, comedic monologue. All National Honor Society Seniors must purchase graduation cords this week. See Ms. Barkdollini outside the Media Center before school and at lunch. The order will be sent next week and no further orders will be placed.

Prom is April 13th at the Governor's Club. Purchase your prom tickets for $45 per person this week during lunch OR online. The cost will go up to $50 after spring break. If the cost of a ticket would prevent you from attending prom, see April Crider in the CIC for information about reduced ticket prices.


Are you a Junior or Senior who wants to attend Prom on April 13th but can't afford the cost of the dress?  Cinderella's Closet is here for you! Cinderella's Closet offers a full prom gown package for free! Please see Ms. Crider in Student Services to get an application.  Applications are due on April 2nd.


The Red Cross Club is holding a Blood Drive on April 4th. Visit the table in front of the Media Center during lunch for details!

 

Students in grades 9-12 in Carrboro & Chapel Hill are invited to apply to OWASA's new Youth Water Academy . Over 4 sessions in April, they'll learn from OWASA's engineers, operators, scientists, field crews and more, about the fascinating process of delivering the community's water. The Academy is free, and 12 spots are open. Deadline to apply is March 26.

Do you like food, learning and service learning opportunities? Don't forget to attend  the Vaping Lunch & Learn today in the CIC brought to you by UNC School of Social Work and the TRU Club. Even if you didn't sign up, there may be enough food so drop in!
