Student Announcements: March 8, 2018

Lost & Found is set up in the Commons.  Claim it if it's yours! Items remaining at the end of the week will be donated.  


The Peer Buddy and Special Olympics clubs have joined forces for the Spread the Word to End the Word campaign, an event to build awareness to stop and think about the use of the R-word in society. All of this week we will be in the commons during lunch we will be receiving signatures pledging that we will show respect to all of our students.  Wristbands, stickers and pens will be available!


Kara Van Hooser, Assistive Technology specialist, and Debbie Reinhertsen, Speech Language Pathologist from the CIDD, will be giving a "Working Lunch" training Monday on PODD communication (The picture flip-book communication system) during lunch in Mrs. Barry's room.  If you're interested in learning more about PODD plan to bring your lunch & join us in D122. This session will be especially great for Peer Buddies & anyone considering careers in speech therapy, special education or assistive technology. The session will be videotaped for educational training for teachers.


A representative from Appalachian State University will visit Carrboro High on Friday, March 16th at 9:00 in the CIC.  This is a great opportunity for juniors beginning their college search to learn more information about Appalachian State University.  To attend this college visit please sign up in the white notebook in the CIC.


The Epsilon Gamma Chapter of Sigma Pi Phi, is sponsoring a writing competition for male African American students in grades 9-11.  The purpose of the competition is to encourage writing and communication skills among African American males. The first-place winner will receive $750.00, Second Place: $500 and Third Place: $300.  Please get your application from the Main Office.


Club presidents, please meet with your club by Friday, March 9th, to obtain a club photo and submit it on the form located in the announcements.


Are you ready for PROM?  Cinderella's Closet offers free gowns, shoes and jewelry to juniors and seniors that might not otherwise be able to afford to attend prom.  Please see Ms. Crider in the guidance office for an application. Applications are due TOMORROW!


There will be a MANDATORY Football Interest meeting today during A Lunch in the Gym.


Attention, Juniors and seniors who attended the Durham Tech CCP Information Session in January:   If you are interested in summer or fall classes at Durham Tech, the deadline to apply is March 15th.  See Dr. Wooten in the CIC for an application packet, and email Adria Kinney at kinneya@durhamtech.edu for further instructions.
